DFL Party Endorses Tina Smith for the United States Senate

06/02/2020

Today, the Minnesota DFL Party announced that Tina Smith secured the DFL Party’s endorsement for re-election to the United States Senate.

Ken Martin, Chairman of the Minnesota DFL Party, released the following statement:

“Today, I’m incredibly proud to announce that the Minnesota DFL Party has endorsed Tina Smith for re-election to the United States Senate. Senator Smith works across the aisle to get things done for Minnesota–whether it’s fighting to lower the price of insulin, expanding mental health services, increasing broadband access or making sure people get the skills they need to get good-paying jobs. And more recently as the nation combats coronavirus, she successfully fought to ensure free COVID-19 testing for all Americans.

“And right now, Tina isn’t shying away from the very real changes we need to make, including fixing the systems that fail to prevent abuses of power and racism in all forms. Minnesotans deserve an advocate, an ally, and a fighter like Tina Smith in the United States Senate.”

Senator Tina Smith released the following statement:

“I’m honored to have the support of the Minnesota DFL, and I thank everyone who participated in this process, which lifts up the voices of Minnesotans all across our state.

“Minneosta is grappling with the health and economic crisis of the coronavirus pandemic, and now the terrible injustice of the death of George Floyd, and the deep systemic inequity his death forces us to confront and act upon. In this moment, I feel an even greater responsibility to keep working for Minnesotans, our families, neighbors and loved ones. This is what is at stake in this election: how we build forward, calling on the best, most inventive, inclusive and hardworking Minnesota.

“My entire life–as an organizer and volunteer, small business owner, Lt. Governor, and now as your Senator–I’ve worked to bring people together, find common ground, and make progress for people. Minnesota needs compassionate and steady leadership that works toward a better community for all of us.”
