DFL Chairman Ken Martin Calls for an End to the Republican Party’s Fear-Mongering

Yesterday, the Jewish Community Center (JCC) in Highland Park was evacuated due to a bomb threat. The Highland Park JCC was one of many across the country to receive a similar threat. It was only last month that the JCC in St. Louis Park was evacuated due to a bomb threat.

DFL Chairman Ken Martin released the following statement:

“These recent bomb threats mark a disturbing trend under Republican President Donald Trump. He awakened a hatred within people who have shown that they are willing to follow through on their president’s fear mongering rhetoric and attack individuals for being different.

“This trend must stop.

“Our children deserve better than this. Better than their lessons being interrupted by hate and fear in the form of a bomb threat, better than receiving racial slurs hurled at them and their family when they are out in public, better than seeing their friends and neighbors pulled from school buses and raided homes just for searching for a better life, and better than the plans coming from Trump and his Republican Congress that will only make things worse.

“While Republicans here in Minnesota and in Washington remain focused solely on international terrorism, they’ve become blind to homegrown terrorists who are targeting our children. It’s time to focus on keeping all Americans safe from domestic and foreign threats and stop allowing terrorists to hide behind any other label. All of us, Republican and Democrat, must work together to fight homegrown terrorists and their acts of violence.

“While our thoughts and prayers are with the families in St. Paul and across the country who nearly had their worst fears realized, our determination is with those who will work with us to ensure our communities are safe places for everyone.”
