FEC Complaint to be Filed Against Antone for Congress for Violating Federal Election Law

08/04/2020

Tomorrow, the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer Labor Party will be filing a FEC complaint against Antone Melton-Meaux, Antone for Congress and associated firms for conspiring to intentionally obscure the individuals providing services to Antone for Congress – in clear contravention of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 and its disclosure requirements.

“The campaign of Ilhan Omar’s primary opponent has gone against the values of the DFL Party by apparently working with vendors to set up mysterious shell companies to hide millions of dollars in spending,” said DFL Party Chairman Ken Martin in a statement. “Not only did those shell companies appear to have failed to file taxes, but the campaign illegally failed to disclose where that money is going. It appears they are illegally paying campaign vendors off-the-books and admitting to it.”

According to the complaint, “Respondents have openly admitted that three companies – WCPA, Lake Point Consulting, and North Superior Consulting – were created for the sole purpose of shielding the identity of the individuals or firms actually providing services to the campaign, and not in the ordinary course of their business.  This action is clearly prohibited under the [Federal Election Campaign] Act and the FEC’s guidance.  As such, the FEC should find reason to believe that a violation has occurred, and punish the Respondents accordingly.”

The complaint follows extensive reporting that Antone Melton-Meaux has sought to hide the recipients of over $1.5 million in campaign disbursements by using at least shell companies—WCPA, Lake Point Consulting, and North Superior Consulting.
