DFL Chairman Ken Martin’s Statement on Tonight’s Special Elections
[ST. PAUL, MN] – Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party Chairman Ken Martin today released the following statement on the special elections in Senate District 54 and House District 23B.
“Congratulations to Senator-Elect Karla Bigham! By claiming victory in a district Trump carried in 2016, Karla’s win shows the immense energy behind our party heading into this pivotal election year. We look forward to seeing the great work she does at the State Capitol.”
“I would also like to commend Melissa Wagner on her hard-fought campaign. The enthusiasm behind her grassroots campaign in a ruby red district shows that our party’s message resonates in every corner of our state.”
A life-long resident of Washington County, Karla Bigham has dedicated her career to public service. As a Washington County Commissioner, former State Representative, and former Cottage Grove City Council Member, she has the experience needed to get things done at the State Capitol.
Throughout her time in elected office, Karla has delivered for those she serves. When she was a State Representative, the aging two-lane bridge in Hastings, known as “Big Blue,” was deteriorating. Karla helped lead the charge to secure funding to replace the crumbling bridge. The community now has a state-of-the-art, four-lane bridge that cuts down on congestion and will safely serve commuters for generations to come. As State Senator, Karla will bring this fighting spirit to critical issues like health care, education, and economic opportunity.
