DFL Calls on Republican U.S. Senate, Gubernatorial Candidates to Denounce GOP Officials who Posted Islamophobic Precinct Caucus ‘Warning’

State Representatives Cindy Pugh and Kathy Lohmer, as well as a local GOP official, recently said on Facebook that Muslims are attempting to “infiltrate” the upcoming precinct caucuses and pose a threat to “American law”

[ST. PAUL, MN] – Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party Chairman Ken Martin today called on Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Karin Housley and the Republican candidates for governor to denounce GOP officials who recently posted a Islamophobic ‘warning’ on Facebook. State Representatives Cindy Pugh and Kathy Lohmer, and Fourth Congressional District GOP Chairman Dave Sina, recently said on Facebook that Muslims are attempting to “infiltrate” the upcoming precinct caucuses and pose a threat to “American law.”

“Precinct caucuses are a cornerstone of our democracy, and these bigoted comments undermine the inclusivity that makes them strong,” Chairman Martin said. “With precinct caucuses less than a week away, Republican candidates have a duty to make clear they do not endorse this type of ignorant fear-mongering. We call on U.S. Senate Candidate Karin Housley, as well as Jeff Johnson, Keith Downey, and all of the other Republican candidates for governor to denounce these damaging comments and make clear every Minnesotan has the right to have their voice heard.”
