Statement from DFL Chairman Ken Martin on the GOP Legislators’ Dangerous Obstruction
After blowing past budget deadlines, Republican leaders in both chambers continue to play games with Minnesota’s future. We’re in the midst of a special session without an end-date because Republicans made the wrong choices. Rather than investing in what Minnesotans value, the GOP chose to focus on divisive issues and steer us down a path of greater inequality and fiscal irresponsibility.
For weeks, Republicans had opportunities to work with Gov. Dayton and DFLers and send clean bills to the governor but instead, they chose to sneak failed policies into budget bills in a shameful attempt to attack immigrants, state employees, and teachers.
While DFLers are improving opportunity for all Minnesotans and investing in what makes Minnesota great, Republicans show us time and time again that they value corporations and the wealthy over regular Minnesotans. Republicans are playing the blame game for going into a special session. They might have won the election, but they are sure failing Minnesotans.
