Statement from DFL Chairman Ken Martin on GOP Legislators’ Debacle in the Dark

“Last night the MN GOP decided to abandon budget negotiations with Governor Mark Dayton.

“While they pretended to be willing and able to negotiate with the Governor, GOP legislators have only ever wanted the Governor to agree to their terms and not have to give anything up. That is not true negotiation and it is definitely not the job Minnesotans sent these lawmakers to St. Paul to do.

“Like it or not, our reality is that the legislature is controlled by the GOP and our executive office is held by a DFL Governor. True compromise, where both parties give and take, is our only way forward. Republicans should not have walked away.

“With the little time left in this legislative session, leaders in both parties need to work together to ensure the best possible future for all Minnesotans.”
