Statement from DFL Chairman Ken Martin on
GOP’s Budget Targets
“Without proper notice to the public, the Minnesota House Republican Caucus unveiled its budget resolution and scheduled a hearing on this important issue. This indicates that Republicans don’t want the public taking too close of a look or asking too many questions about their plans for Minnesota.
“The bulk of the Republicans’ budget is a tax cut. While this might help Minnesotans in the short-term, the tax cuts could result in future budget deficits. Under Gov. Mark Dayton and DFL legislators’ leadership, the state broke away from the cycle of budget deficits. This is not the time to go backward. The Republicans propose to increase funds for roads and bridges at the expense of seniors and our education system.
“There are many questions that need to be answered in the coming weeks as the Republican budget bills are heard in committees. I encourage Minnesotans to keep close tabs on how the Republicans’ budget proposal will impact working families and our state’s future prosperity.”
