Statement from DFL Chairman Ken Martin on ACA Repeal vote

“Minnesotans elected Jason Lewis, Erik Paulsen and Tom Emmer to Congress, but apparently these Republican members of Congress think they answer to President Donald Trump.

“Trump warned Republicans to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) or ‘lose their seats.’ Lewis, Paulsen and Emmer are toeing the line, putting life-saving health care at risk for millions of Americans and thousands in their own districts. Repealing the ACA will impact almost 40,000 people in Lewis’ district; 53,000 people in Paulsen’s district; and more than 40,000 people in Emmer’s district.

“Turning our backs on our loved ones and most vulnerable citizens, including the elderly, those with disabilities and mental health needs, children, and the poor, is not who we are as Minnesotans. Perhaps Trump is right, if Lewis, Paulsen and Emmer take affordable and accessible health care away from those who need it most, working families and entrepreneurs, they could lose their seats. But it won’t be because of threats from Washington, D.C., it will be from voters who want representatives who support people, not play politics.”
