DFL Chair Ken Martin on results of the election
“Obviously we are extremely disappointed with the overall results of last night’s election. Our candidates, staff and volunteers worked tremendously hard and I’m proud of the campaign’s they waged and their extraordinary effort. The kind of wave we saw last night is incredibly difficult to withstand. Even so DFLers saw two great members of Congress, Rick Nolan and Tim Walz hold off strong challenges, and a third, Rep. Colin Peterson comfortably win reelection. I also want to congratulate our new DFL Minnesota House and Senate members-elect who I know will represent their communities well in the state legislature. These new voices will bring a fresh perspective and approach to the State Capitol.
“Finally I congratulate our Republican opponents on a hard fought and hard won campaign. There is a lot of healing that needs to be done to bring this divided state and nation together. As the elected leaders of this country it is now their obligation to do so. As Democrats we are ready to find common ground, but they must lead. There is a lot of work that needs to be done both in Minnesota and across the nation. I am hopeful that, just as we have in the past, we can come together and accomplish the true goal of politics- improving people’s lives, building our communities, and bringing people together to focus on our common and shared hopes and goals for the future.”
