Statement from DFL Chairman on Republicans’ Cheap Jokes at Real Minnesotan’s Expense

Today it was reported that Old Country Buffet is unexpectedly closing 74 restaurants nationwide, including seven in Minnesota. Quickly following this news, Minnesota Republicans jumped on the chance to make a cheap joke at Minnesotans expense.

“It didn’t take long for Republicans to show their true colors in an insensitive tweet. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen how tone-deaf the Republicans are to the struggles facing Minnesota’s families.  Earlier this week, we saw Republican legislators block a crucial special session that sought to extend unemployment benefits for steelworkers in order to protect profits of the wealthy few.

“Today’s joke about more Minnesotans losing their jobs is a new low. Unemployment isn’t funny. The harsh reality is that too many Minnesotans are struggling to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads.  Minnesota’s families deserve better than being the punchline of cruel jokes.”
