Lawmaker or Law Breaker?
Rep. Michele Bachmann told the Washington Times that her family will limit the information they give to the 2010 Census. "I know for my family the only question we will be answering is how many people are in our home," she said. "We won't be answering any information beyond that, because the Constitution doesn't require any information beyond that." Information collected by the once-a-decade census provides information used by lawmakers to make decisions about how government can best use funds. Federal statute allows prosecution of individuals over the age of 18 who refuse to answer any question on the census form, with a penalty of up to $5000 upon conviction. CD 6 Documents and Resources
